Boredom, Illustrated
Here at the Merry Stitcher, it's melon season. As much as I love cantaloupe and watermelon, these melons for the DWR are B-O-R-I-N-G.
Here's an illustrated look at a process I've done 130 times this week. (Just 50 more to go!)
Take a melon center and "finger press" it down the middle.
(Do you have any idea how your fingers feel after "finger pressing" 130 pieces of fabric? Ouch!)
Pair the melon center with one of the 360 arcs you've built.
Start pinning at the center.
(Imagine how thoroughly "finger pressed" fingers feel after being poked by several dozen pins. Ouch!)
Keep pinning, from edge to edge.
(Exciting, isn't it? Just imagine if you were living this!)
Finish pinning one side of one melon.
Jump for joy!
(The instructions say to just pin with three pins, and then line it up as you sew. Yeah, right. The last thing I need to do is wrestle with a 180 curvy pieces of fabric at the sewing machine.)
Add the pinned melon to the stack.
(It's pretty sad when a growing stack of fabric and pins represents progress.)
At last, something that looks like sewing!
(It's all very curvy!)
Then, to the gnarly ironing board for my "favorite" part of quilting.
(Yeah. I'm kidding.)
Then, toss the freshly ironed half melon into the pile.
Shout, "Hurrah!"
And repeat, repeat, repeat, repeat, repeat, repeat, repeat, repeat, repeat, repeat, repeat, repeat, repeat, repeat, repeat, repeat, repeat, repeat, repeat, repeat, repeat, repeat, repeat, repeat, repeat, repeat, repeat, repeat, repeat, repeat, repeat, repeat, repeat, repeat, repeat, repeat, repeat, repeat, repeat.
You get the idea?
Times like this I realize I like quilting. I don't love it.
I do love that I am making progress, though.
Hurrah!
