Yucky Yarn

One of the things I like most about knitting is yarn. I love the colors and textures. It's great fun to work with. In fact, I've yet to find a yarn I didn't absolutely love. Until now.

I'm well into my "poncho binge", with just sewing left to do on two of three ponchos for my nieces. I decided to go shopping for the yarn for the third niece's poncho. She loves yellow (maybe even more than I love yarn) so the color choice was obvious. As I strolled the aisles of a new yarn store I was visiting, I noticed there was almost no yellow yarn to be found. Desperate, I headed to the clearance bin and found Summerwind, a lovely yellow yarn that was marked 40% off! I felt specially blessed and picked up five skeins.

I started knitting it up right away. Almost immediately, this yarn turned on me. It was "sticky". It got caught in everything...the needles, my fingernails and every ridge of every fingerprint on my hand. It was like wearing a very bad pair of nylons! I discovered the culprit was a thread of invisible nylon running through the fiber. I kept knitting, hoping things would somehow, magically, get better. But, by the fourth row I had visions of my beautiful little niece wrestling with her snaggy yellow poncho. It wasn't pretty. It was time to end it all. I bundled up the four unused skeins and went back to the store for a quick exchange. (I pulled the first skein out of the needles and saved it for blog art!)

Taking a quick look at the manufacturer's website, this yarn was apparently a best seller in 2003. Here's their description: Introducing Summerwind: Color, texture and glitz, make up one of this Springs best sellers!

I'd use fewer words: One really yucky yarn.
