Lotsa Love for Mom

Being a newbie at this blogging biz, I'm just figuring out how to post pictures. I thought I'd start with a photo of my latest quilt.

This quilt was inspired by a baby quilt I saw at a local quilt show. I snapped a photo, sketched it out on paper and did the math. (My high school geometry teacher would be so pleased to know I finally found a way to use geometry in real life!)

I'm still a relative newbie at quilting, too. This was my first attempt at nine-patches (which I discovered start out so simply, then they can turn wicked when you put them on point) and the prairie braid or chevron (depending on which part of the country you're in). The braid was a blast. I'm going to look for ways to play with that in the future.

This quilt is also the first quilt where I pieced the back. It was a happy accident, actually. I had originally intended to have another row of nine patches on the front. But, that particular row got wicked and turned out to be too long. So, I decided to throw it on the back and piece around it.

The quilting on this quilt is a meandering line of alternating loops and hearts. That's what inspired the "Lotsa Love" name.

It was great fun to give it to her in person. I think she liked it very much.
