Seeing Stars

President's Day weekend seems like the perfectly patriotic time to practice making my first applique star. (The Soldier Quilt will have six.) I used the "freezer paper" method, which made fast work of the process. The key to the points is glue stick. (That little wonder has so many uses!) The red blanket stitching is decorative.
This is practice. What do you think? How does it look?

so you freezer-papered the star, used a glue stick, and then blanket-stitched around...nice, even stitches, nicely done.
did you cut a slit from behind and pull the paper out with tweezers? i used to love doing that :)
man, this is making me want to pick up a ufo...

Martha, Martha -
Yeah, I used the glue stick to deal with all of those pesky points. I stitched it with little stitches first, then did the blanket stitching (it's really large) for decoration. Yes, I did the slit in the back, and was amazed that the paper came out in one piece. (That's a minor miracle!) My friend Jean says you can do the same thing by pulling the paper through the front before you sew up the last few stitches. We'll see.
What's the UFO that's calling you to pick it up and play? Answer the call, girl!
Thanks much for stopping by!
