Double Wedding Hearts

Once upon a time, I proudly declared that a Queen-size Double Wedding Ring Quilt would be completed by Christmas 2005.
Ooops!
The Great DWR is still in the "football-making" stage, with renewed hopes that it might be done by Christmas 2006.
As this past Christmas approached, I became increasingly guilt-ridden that the DWR would not be under the tree. I decided to do the next best thing: I put my new-found miniature quilt-making skills to work and made a little heart quilt out of the DWR fabrics.
The substitute quilt came together quickly. I topped it off with a larger version of the hanger for the Santa Sampler, and I was set. Though still filled with quilter's quilt, I felt better that my sister-in-law and her husband would have a quilt to remind them of the quilt that's in the works.
It looks pretty snappy, if I do say so myself. And, it inspires me to get back to work making footballs!
Plus, when I found this pattern, I spotted a smaller version with more miniature hearts. That might make a perfect Santa Sampler-sized Valentine's quilt. We'll see!
