Sunday Stitching

It's been awhile since I've done any quilting, and forever since I've done any quilting that wasn't the Great DWR. My dear friend Jean came over yesterday for a stitching Sunday. We perused projects in the works, including our long-neglected soldier quilt, and opted for a new project -- something small.

Jean introduced me to paper piecing. She took on a charming Amish square miniature, and I jumped into this Santa sampler. Scraps of fabric, thread and paper flew as the two of us hummed along to an iTunes party shuffle. It was quite a day. Before my head hit the pillow, these five little Santas were pieced, along with their flying geese friends. My hope is that these pieces will come together easily in time for Christmas. Not sure who the recipient will be, but I'm sure it will find a good home.

While I'm proud of the quick work we made yesterday, I'm still smiling about our "oops wall". Working on a new technique on a small scale made for some not to merry moments. (One of us, who shall remain nameless, incorporated several four letter words in her quilting.) We decided to dedicate a space to our most notable mistakes of the day, and the "oops wall" was born. If you look closely, you'll see an Amish square that bit the dust, and the remains of the start of a couple of Santas.

Many thanks to Jean for sharing her passion for quilting, her stash, her Sunday and her friendship.
